Wednesday Afternoon Update: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has exploded to 33.7% market share today thanks to its massive worldwide release. That equates to over 16,000 tweets for the day already, quite impressive. Sex and the City 2 has also topped 10,000 tweets already for the day but has dropped to 20% market share thanks to the Prince surge.
Wednesday Morning Update: Sex and the City 2 picked up where it left off on Monday and scored a gigantic 13,085 tweets on Tuesday, for a market share of 28.3%, significantly up from Monday's 16.5%. Its positive percentage improved on the day also, going to 25.75% from 22.31% on Monday, while its negative percentage dropped to 6.1% from 6.46% the day before. At its current rate of explosion it might actually end up with ~35,000 tweets by end of day Wednesday. One point of note is that there is a significant amount of chatter just around the fashion from the premiere and general discussion about the series as a whole, which is going to drive its ratio upwards. In terms of comparisons, Dear John had 3,178 on its Tuesday before release, The Last Song had 3,412 and Letters To Juliet had 718. I'm going to adjust its ratio up a ways to counter for the additional buzz we are seeing. In doing some digging I realized The Last Song had a Wednesday ratio of 1,101. That had a similar search filter as Sex and the City 2 but one less day to gather tweets. Given the additional day to gather tweets I believe a ratio of 1,500 should be in store. Still looking solid and ready for a low $20 millions opening though.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time saw 5,182 tweets on Tuesday, up from 4,627 tweets on Monday, for a market share of 11.2%, exactly the same as Monday. Its tweet quality was again just below Sex and the City 2, with 22.21% positive (up from 21.83% positive on Monday) and 5.91% negative (down from 8.00% on Monday). In sticking with the Iron Man 2 yardstick, that had 21,186 tweets its Tuesday before release, just about four times as much. This is hardly overwhelming numbers for the film, and at this current rate it is going to have a very hard time hitting my estimated 25,000 - 30,000 tweets. Its stagnation in market share from Monday to Tuesday is also alarming, and it will really need to turn on the jets Wednesday if it is to have any chance at cracking $50 million for the holiday weekend.
