Tuesday Afternoon Update: Knight and Day has reeled in 1,532 tweets so far for the day, good enough for a market share of 3.5%, up from 2.6% yesterday. Pretty solid traffic so far for the day at face value but considering this is the day before release for the film, it is somewhat underwhelming for a Summer tentpole. By comparison, Killers had 867 tweets on its Tuesday before release, and 1,367 on its day before release (Thursday). Grown Ups also really hasn't impressed today, coming in with only 494 tweets so far and 1.1% market share, barely up from yesterday's 1.0%. This is a ways behind Couples Retreat's 938 on its Tuesday before release.

upcoming062510.jpgTuesday Morning UpdateGrown Ups had 594 tweets on Monday for pretty ordinary 1.1% market share on the day. Before you scramble to reread the title of the article and wonder why I said it took the honors for the day consider that Couples Retreat had only 533 tweets on its Monday before release. The generic name really puts a damper on the tweets aggregation. Other films such as Death at a Funeral and Get Him To The Greek both had unique names which boosted their tweet totals significantly no doubt to 855 and 566 tweets respectively. It should also appeal to an older audience than Greek or Funeral thanks to its cast and positioning, and Couples is definitely a great comparison in those departments (ie older comedic cast, kids and marriages being a central plot point).

Knight and Day actually had a better day tweet-wise with 1,403 tweets and 2.6% market share. Yes this is way better at face value, but considering that the film has a stronger appeal to women than Grown Ups, and that it has a very unique name it really is far from impressive. By comparison, Killers had 566 tweets its first Monday before release. Killers had a very difficult name to narrow down tweets for, but it appealed to pretty much the same target audience, perhaps with an increased slant towards women. Also, consider that since Knight is getting a Wednesday release, Monday was really the equivalent to Wednesday for Killers, a day which it got 1,563 tweets. While there is little doubt it will outperform Killers the lack of a larger number really limits its potential and should ensure that it doesn't leapfrog Grown Ups on the weekend.
