Thursday Morning Update: Despicable Me rose to 6,388 tweets on Wednesday and a market share of 6.0%, up from 4,029 tweets and 4.6% market share on Tuesday. By comparison, How To Train Your Dragon had 1,698 tweets on its Wednesday before release, Shrek Forever After had 2,201, while Marmaduke had 301. Once again a very strong performance from the film as it has clearly captured the attention of the young core of Twitter. Universal really has done a stellar job of pushing this at the right time and to the right people to generate interest and awareness. Expect a Friday of $13 million and $36 million for the full weekend and the number 1 spot at the Box Office as it will eclipse Eclipse.
Predators increased to 4,657 tweets and 4.4% market share on Wednesday, up significantly from 1,866 tweets and 1.5% market share on Tuesday. By comparison, A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010) had 4,304 tweets its Wednesday before release, Splice had 1,215, The Wolfman had 1,891 and Daybreakers had 1,312. Now that's more like it! Very impressive jump and just at the right time. However, even with this 100+% increase it is still lagging behind Despicable, a film which it is almost assured to have a higher ratio than. Expect a Friday of $9 million for the film and $23 million for the full weekend.
