Saturday Afternoon Update: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse scored $28.6 million more on Friday, bringing its tally for its first three days to $121.35 million. Its opening day of $68.5 million gave it a Twitter ratio of 5,967 from its 408,734 tweets on Monday and Tuesday. Though it didn't break the single day record set by its predecessor it was very close to my predicted $73.4 million. It is on course to rake in $171.24 million by the end of Sunday and north of $185 million for the full six day holiday period. Its amazing the type of buzz this franchise manages to drum up through online mediums, especially Twitter. Through Thursday it has secured 1.1 million tweets, while every single wide release for 2010 so far managed to drum up 793,037 tweets on the same Monday to Thursday period. Now that's what I call a following!
Despite being panned by critics The Last Airbender is actually on course for a very solid opening frame with an expected $61.35 million in returns by end of day Sunday. It started well on Thursday with $16 million and actually saw a rise to $16.6 million on Friday, another strong sign. My predicted $10 million for Thursday turned out to be much too skimpy as the film proved to be an ample option for young males. Perhaps the critics opinions will affect its legs but fans clearly showed that they had little concern with such reported shortcomings.
