On Tuesday, January 18, Universal Studios Home Entertainment released Death Race 2, a direct-to-DVD (and -Blu-ray) sequel to Paul W.S. Anderson's 2008 remake of the Roger Corman sci-fi classic. Directed by Roel Reine from a story by Anderson and screenwriter Tony Giglio, the film offers a prequel of sorts to its predecessor and provides an origin story for a character who has become indelible to every version of Death Race, Frankenstein, while offering plenty more action both in and out of some supped-up automobiles.
Boxoffice moderated a q&a late last week at the Death Race 2 premiere in Los Angeles with Reine, Giglio, and producer Jeremy Holt, as well as the film's stars Luke Goss, Danny Trejo, and Robin Shou. We recorded our conversation with the cast and crew, all of whom offer insights and observations about mounting a small screen production that managed to turn out every bit as big as its predecessor.
