Just looking at the title for Barney's Version, it's fairly obvious that the film focuses on an interpretation of events via her co-star Paul Giamatti's character, but it's Rosamund Pike's Miriam who gives those events the requisite twists and turns as well as the dramatic gravitas that they take on while chronicling the life of Barney Panofksy. Of course, Pike has spent the last several years providing just that sort of complexity in a variety of films, from An Education to Made in Dagenham, and continues to prove that she can transform virtually any role big or small into something substantive and meaningful to audiences.

Boxoffice sat down with Pike last week for a lengthy chat about Miriam, and her career, at the Los Angeles press day for Barney's Version. In addition to pinpointing the cues that helped her tap into her character, she talked about her approach to acting, and tackling the sometimes-tough prospect of either finding, or sometimes making, roles that are more interesting and complicated than they seem on the page.
