Forum Buzz: 'Star Trek Into Darkness' Leads Stagnant Top 3

on December 31, 2012 by Shawn Robbins

trek2-manofsteel-ironman3.pngAs will occur from time to time, this week's Most Anticipated Movies via our forums delivered an identical top three to our previous update before Christmas. This time, however, Star Trek Into Darkness padded its lead over Man of Steel with a 37 percent gap in votes. Trek has now topped the chart for three consecutive weeks.

Meanwhile, Iron Man 3 remains in third place for a second straight week - comfortably ahead of fourth place-finisher, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire which jumped one spot. Thor: The Dark World increased by two positions this week and rounds out the top five.

The most activity this week came from the bottom half of the top ten: Pacific Rim and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug each jumped two spots to #6 and #7, respectively, while Monsters University re-entered the top ten in eighth place. Neill Blomkamp's Elysium scooted up one notch to crack the top ten as well.

Most surprising this week are three films that saw sharp declines: in their final week of eligibility due to release, Django Unchained slipped three positions to #9 while Les Miserables dove nine positions to #13. Zero Dark Thirty similarly tanked by eight spots on the chart to 18th place, but it still has two weeks to make that ground back up before its wide release on January 11.

Voting for Parental Guidance ended this week without any votes tallied, while Silver Linings Playbook exits in 29th place in tandem with its nationwide release.
