Warner's Clash of the Titans held off Paramount's How to Train Your Dragon to remain at the top of the daily box office on Thursday. The 3D fantasy remake grossed $4.07 million, which topped Dragon by $260,061 for the day. Clash of the Titans was down 4 percent from Wednesday, representing one of the day's weaker daily holds among wide releases. Titans held up decently throughout most of the midweek, but Thursday's hold is discouraging as the film heads into its second week of release. Clash of the Titans was easily this week's top film with $80.94 million. The film's domestic cume stands at $83.59 million, placing it 13 percent behind the pace of 2007's 300.
How to Train Your Dragon finished in a close second with $3.81 million. The 3D computer animated film from DreamWorks was up a healthy 9 percent over Wednesday and down 27 percent from last Thursday. Dragon held up extremely well throughout the midweek and should continue to hold up very well over the weekend. For the week, How to Train Your Dragon finished in second with $45.42 million. That was down just 28 percent from the film's opening week performance and brings the film's two-week total to $108.54 million. Dragon is now running 8 percent behind the pace of last year's Monsters vs. Aliens.
Disney's The Last Song was up one spot and 6 percent from Wednesday to take third on Thursday. The Miley Cyrus vehicle based on the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name grossed $1.53 million, which was down 64 percent from last Thursday. While The Last Song didn't open anywhere near as big as last year's Hannah Montana: The Movie, the film is holding up significantly better than HM: TM thus far. The Last Song finished in fourth place for the week with $23.04 million and has grossed a very solid $32.42 million in nine days of release.
Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? fell one spot to finish in fourth. The Lionsgate release was down 7 percent from Wednesday. Married Too has now experienced the day's largest daily percentage decline among wide releases for two consecutive days. Although it is falling off very quickly, Why Did I Get Married Too? exceeded expectations this week with a seven-day start of $37.52 million. That was good enough for third place for the frame and was 40 percent stronger than the one-week start of 2007's Why Did I Get Married?
Disney's Alice in Wonderland rounded out the day's top five with $0.91 million. The 3D blockbuster was up 4 percent from Wednesday, but down 56 percent from last Thursday. Alice in Wonderland finished in fifth place for the week with $12.18 million and has now grossed $313.71 million through five weeks of release.
