According to studio weekend estimates, Shrek Forever After is set for a $71 million debut, which pales in comparison to the $121.6 million opening of Shrek the Third in 2007. Even though the fourth ogre flick suffered a serious drop in terms of fan support, it was able to land an A rating from CinemaScore.
MacGruber failed to capture a sizable audience during its opening frame. The SNL flick is on pace for only a little more than $4 million this weekend. Universal has yet another dud on their hands.
Iron Man 2 is going to grab $26.6 million during its third weekend in theaters. The superhero sequel is definitely on pace to top the first film's $318.4 million domestic take.
Robin Hood was able to avoid a drop of 50 percent during its sophomore frame, which is an impressive accomplishment during a competitive summer. The period piece is also performing quite well abroad, and it added another $30 million this week from 58 territories. Robin Hood's estimated worldwide total is $191.1 million.
Overall receipts will equal around $151 million this weekend, which puts it 14.3 percent behind the same weekend last year. 2010's domestic haul is currently 5.5 percent ahead of 2009's at the same point in the year.
