Universal's Despicable Me rounded out its first week in theatres with another first place finish on Thursday. The break-out computer animated film from Illumination Entertainment grossed $6.40 million for the day. After holding up quite well the past few days, Despicable Me did lose a bit of momentum heading into the weekend as it was down 11 percent from Wednesday. However, it should be noted that a number of wide releases fell at least 10 percent from Wednesday. Furthermore, Despicable Me is still in good shape to experience a very solid second weekend hold. Despicable Me grossed $85.63 million in its first seven days, which easily made it the week's top film and places it 6.5 percent ahead of the pace of last summer's Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

Warner's highly anticipated Inception was off to a solid estimated Midnight start of $3.0 million. Those grosses will be counted towards today's opening day performance for the film. Check back tomorrow and throughout the weekend for the latest updates on Inception.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse was up one spot from Wednesday to claim second place. The third installment of Summit's fantasy franchise grossed $3.44 million for the day. That was down a solid 8 percent from Wednesday, but still down a sizable 57 percent from last Thursday. Yesterday saw Eclipse cross the $250 million mark. Eclipse finished in second for the week with $47.71 million and has grossed $251.37 million through 16 days of release.

After a slow start on Wednesday, The Sorcerer's Apprentice held up well on Thursday for a Wednesday release. Disney's big-budget adventure film starring Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel finished in third with a daily take of $3.21 million. The Sorcerer's Apprentice was down 17 percent from Wednesday and continues to perform similarly to the recent Knight and Day, which grossed $3.48 million and fell 9 percent on its first Thursday. The Sorcerer's Apprentice has grossed $7.09 million in its first two days of release and looks to be headed for a disappointing five-day start in the neighborhood of $26 million.

Toy Story 3 remained in fourth place with $2.51 million and in the process became the first release of 2010 to reach the $350 million mark. The acclaimed computer animated sequel from Disney and Pixar was down 16 percent from Wednesday and down 51 percent from last Thursday. Toy Story 3 finished in fourth for the week with $32.74 million. With a four-week gross of $350.97 million, Toy Story 3 is now $49.03 million away from the $400 million milestone.

Fox's Predators continued to fall off quickly as it slid 11 percent from Wednesday with a daily gross of $1.67 million. The sci-fi action sequel had a nice opening day last Friday, but has lost major momentum in the days since then. With that said, Predators was still able to claim third place for the week with a first week gross of $33.28 million. Look for Predators to experience a very sharp second weekend decline this weekend.
