According to studio weekend estimates, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is on pace to add $69 million from Friday to Sunday to its already very impressive haul. Overall receipts should equal $189 million from Friday to Sunday, which represents a 16.3 percent increase from the same weekend last year.
Summit's flick has a solid five-day haul of $161 million, $8.2 million of which came from 193 IMAX locations.. To put that into perspective, New Moon made around $165 million over five days. Eclipse will have a strong Monday since most moviegoers will still be off from work, which means that it should still top New Moon's six-day haul of $173.6 million. Summit is predicting that it will hit $181 million over six days.
65 percent of Eclipse's audience was female, and surprisingly 55 percent of attendees were 21 years of age and older. The film tallied an A from CinemaScore. New Moon's opening weekend audience was 80 percent female and 50 percent was over 21.
Eclipse also did quite well abroad with $100.2 million from 42 territories.
Even though it's opening in the shadow of Eclipse, The Last Airbender is doing well for itself. The latest M. Night Shyamalan film is set to post a respectable haul of $40.6 million from Friday to Sunday. The negative reviews that came rushing in are not stopping moviegoers from showing up.
Even though it's only playing at 77 locations, Cyrus managed an impressive $770,256. The Fox Searchlight release is shaping up to be one of the summer's biggest indie hits.
Check back tomorrow for weekend actuals.
