Paramount's Paranormal Activity 2 led the daily box office for a sixth straight day on Wednesday. The low-budget horror sequel grossed $1.87 million. That was down a noteworthy 16 percent from Tuesday, but was also right in line with the type of declines experienced by all films in the top seven yesterday. In comparison, last year's Paranormal Activity slid 9 percent on its first Wednesday of major release and 14 percent on its first Wednesday of wide release. Paranormal Activity 2 has grossed a better than expected $47.18 million through six days and should remain a major force at the box office this weekend thanks in part to Halloween falling on Sunday.
Jackass 3D remained in second with $1.42 million. However, Paramount's 3D sequel continues its rapid decline as it was down 18 percent from Tuesday and down 58 percent from last Wednesday. Jackass 3D is very likely to experience another large decline this weekend, especially with Lionsgate's Saw 3D invading 3D screens on Friday. With that said Jackass 3D is already the highest grossing film of this September and October with a 13-day take of $91.79 million and is set to reach the $100 million mark by the end of the weekend.
Summit's Red held steady in third place with $1.06 million. The action-comedy starring Bruce Willis was down 16 percent from Tuesday, but still down just 32 percent from last Wednesday as holding power remains strong for the film. Red is in great shape to experience another strong hold this weekend and could overtake Jackass 3D in this weekend's rankings. Red has grossed $46.97 million in 13 days and will zoom past the $50 million mark this weekend.
After a nice hold on Tuesday, Warner's Hereafter was unable to sustain momentum on Wednesday as it fell 18 percent from the previous day. The Clint Eastwood directed film remained in fourth place with $0.83 million. After six days of release Hereafter has grossed $15.06 million. Hereafter should experience some stabilization this weekend thanks in part to serving as a Halloween alternative to both Saw 3D and Paranormal Activity 2, but could start to fall off faster next week.
Secretariat rounded out the day's unchanged top five with $0.54 million. The sport drama from Disney was down 11 percent from Wednesday and down 28 percent from last Thursday. Thanks in part to strong word of mouth, Secretariat has grossed $39.13 million in 20 days and is set to reach the $40 million mark on Friday.
