'Megamind' Easily Grabs #1 Spot

on November 06, 2010 by Phil Contrino

According to BoxOffice.com's Early Weekend Estimates, Megamind will post a healthy $44 million debut during its debut frame. This will give Paramount its third #1 opening in four weekends. As long as the estimate holds, it'll be enough to top the $43.7 million opening of How to Train Your Dragon this past March.

Due Date is also off to an excellent start. The latest from director Todd Phillips is on pace for $35 million, which is second only to The Hangover's $45 million opening in Phillips' career.

For Colored Girls is set for $21 million, and that's Tyler Perry's worst opening since 2008's The Family That Preys grabbed $17.4 million. $21 million is still a strong debut even if it's far from a personal best for Perry. The multi-hyphenate stepped out of his comfort zone a bit with For Colored Girls, so it may take a little while for word to spread that he's still delivered a solid flick.

Check back tomorrow for studio weekend estimates.
