Saw 3D led the way on Election Day, while Red experienced an impressive daily increase.

‘Saw 3D’ Wins on Election Day

Lionsgate's Saw 3D remained at the top of the box office on Tuesday with $1.89 million. The 3D horror sequel was down a solid 5 percent from Monday, but daily holds across the board were helped out on Tuesday in a big way by Election Day. Saw 3D has grossed $28.11 million through five days of release. That places the film an impressive 77 percent ahead of the pace of last year's Saw VI, but 21 percent behind the pace of 2008's Saw V. At its current pace Saw 3D is headed for a final domestic gross in the area of $45 million to $50 million.

Red experienced a big jump on Tuesday as it was up two spots and up 26 percent from Monday. The action-comedy from Summit grossed $1.205 million, which topped Paramount's Paranormal Activity 2 by $20,116 for the day. Red surpassed the $60 million mark yesterday and was down a very slim 5 percent from last Tuesday. Red has displayed very strong holding power thus far, but could take a bit of a hit this coming weekend with three highly anticipated releases entering the marketplace on Friday.

Paranormal Activity 2 slid one spot and 11 percent from Monday to finish in third on Tuesday with $1.185 million. The low-budget horror sequel was down 46 percent from last Tuesday. Paranormal Activity 2 has grossed a very impressive $68.19 million through 12 days of release, but is likely to continue to fall off quickly going forward with Halloween now behind us.

Fellow Paramount release Jackass 3D grossed $1.132 million to claim fourth place. The 3D sequel was up 4 percent over Monday and down 34 percent from last Tuesday. Jackass 3D has grossed $103.88 million through 19 days of release, making it the only release of this September and October to reach the $100 million milestone thus far.

Secretariat was up a massive 43 percent from Monday to finish in sixth with $0.696 million. The sports drama from Disney was up an impressive 15 percent from last Tuesday. Family films typically see the largest jumps on Election Day and the trend clearly continued this year with Secretariat (as well as Warner's Legend of the Guardians, which was up 54 percent over Monday). Secretariat has grossed $45.89 million through 26 days.
