Thursday Update

Little Fockers topped the daily box office for an eighth consecutive day on Wednesday. The comedy sequel from Universal grossed $7.71 million, which was down a slim 1 percent from Tuesday and up 8 percent over last Wednesday's opening day performance. In comparison, 2004's Meet the Fockers experienced a 9 percent daily slide at the same point in its run. Little Fockers has grossed a softer than expected $68.99 million in eight days, but the film has been holding up well thus far. Little Fockers is currently running 36 percent behind the pace of Meet the Fockers.

Paramount's True Grit was up one spot and 2 percent from Tuesday to return to second place on Wednesday. The western remake from the Coen Brothers grossed $6.29 million, which was up 14 percent over last Wednesday's opening day performance. True Grit topped the $50 million mark yesterday and has grossed a better than expected $55.65 million in eight days. The film is currently running 8 percent behind the pace of 2008's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and 19 percent ahead of 2008's Valkyrie.

TRON: Legacy was down one spot and 4 percent to claim third place with $6.11 million. Disney's 3D sci-fi sequel was up 9 percent over last Wednesday. TRON: Legacy is currently this December's highest grossing release with a 13-day take of $106.17 million. That places the film 42 percent ahead of the pace of 2004's A Series of Unfortunate Events. With the aid of the New Year's Day holiday and continued higher priced 3D admissions, look for TRON: Legacy to experience a healthy hold this coming weekend.

Family fare continued to occupy places four through seven on Wednesday. Warner's Yogi Bear led the pack with $4.55 million, which was up 1 percent from Tuesday. Disney's Tangled was up one spot and 3 percent from Tuesday to round out the day's top five with $3.72 million. Fox claimed sixth and seventh places respectively with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader ($3.38 million) and Gulliver's Travels ($3.12 million). Respective current totals stand at $154.28 million for Tangled, $73.17 million for Dawn Treader, $48.47 million for Yogi Bear and just $15.05 million for Gulliver's Travels (through five days).

On the platform front, Blue Valentine was off to a noteworthy opening day start of $47,887. The critically acclaimed film from The Weinstein Company starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams is currently playing in four locations in New York and Los Angeles. That gave Blue Valentine a per-location average of $11,972 for the day.

Please note that some of today's grosses are estimates due to the holidays.
