Little Fockers led the daily box office for a sixth consecutive day on Monday. The comedy sequel from Universal grossed $8.42 million, which was down 26 percent from Sunday. That represented a slightly stronger percentage hold than the 28 percent daily slide 2004's Meet the Fockers experienced on its first Monday. It should be noted that Monday's post-Christmas daily holds were a bit stronger yesterday in general than they were back in 2004 thanks to this Sunday's grosses having been limited by the East Coast snowstorm. Little Fockers topped the $50 million mark yesterday and has grossed $53.50 million through six days of release. That is below expectations and places the film 37 percent behind the pace of Meet the Fockers.
Paramount's True Grit held steady in a close second place with $7.17 million. Like Little Fockers, True Grit was also down 26 percent from Sunday. The Coen Brothers directed western remake has grossed $43.24 million in six days and is set to cross the $50 million mark either today or Wednesday. The film has exceeded pre-release expectations and has clearly taken some of the steam out of Little Fockers in the process. True Grit is currently running 11 percent behind the pace of 2008's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and 16 percent ahead of 2008's Valkyrie.
TRON: Legacy continued to claim third place with $6.33 million. Disney's 3D sci-fi sequel was down 16 percent from Sunday. That was a stronger daily hold than those experienced by both Little Fockers and True Grit, as having greater family appeal will help out TRON: Legacy more during the midweek in comparison. However, TRON: Legacy didn't hold up as well as other family options did yesterday as it isn't exactly a traditional family film either. TRON: Legacy has grossed $93.71 million in eleven days and is set to reach the $100 million milestone either today or Wednesday.
Spots four through seven were all occupied by family films on Monday. Warner's Yogi Bear led the pack with $3.59 million (up 10 percent from Sunday), Fox's The Voyage of the Dawn Treader followed closely behind with $3.49 million (down 4 percent), Disney's Tangled grossed $3.24 million (up a strong 23 percent) and Gulliver's Travels took in $2.69 million (down 7 percent). Respective total grosses currently stand at $146.93 million for Tangled, $66.08 million for Dawn Treader, $39.41 million for Yogi Bear and just $8.998 million for Gulliver's Travels (through three days of release).
Please note that some of today's grosses are estimates due to the holidays.
