TRON: Legacy led the box office once again on Tuesday, while family films experienced a surge in daily business.

‘TRON: Legacy’ #1 on Tuesday with $6.35 Million

on December 22, 2010 by Daniel Garris

Disney's TRON: Legacy grossed $6.35 million on Tuesday to remain at the top of the daily box office. TRON: Legacy has led the daily box office for five consecutive days, but is expected to fall behind Universal's Little Fockers beginning today. The 3D sci-fi sequel was up 6 percent over Monday. That was a respectable daily hold in its own right, but at the same time represented the day's weakest daily hold among wide releases. With a five-day gross of $56.45 million TRON: Legacy continues to perform in line with pre-release expectations. The film is currently running 46 percent ahead of the pace of 2004's A Series of Unfortunate Events and 38 percent behind 2007's I Am Legend.

After experiencing some slowing on Sunday and Monday, Yogi Bear rebounded nicely on Tuesday with $2.95 million to remain in second place. The 3D family film from Warner Bros. was up a healthy 21 percent over Monday. Daily increases were strong in general for family films yesterday thanks to the approaching Christmas holiday. Yogi Bear has grossed $21.79 million through five days, which is slightly below expectations. The film is currently running 45 percent ahead of the pace of 2008's The Tale of Despereaux and 56 percent behind 2007's Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Fox's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader held steady in third with $2.66 million. The fantasy sequel was up 20 percent over Monday and up 54 percent over last Tuesday. Dawn Treader has grossed $47.64 million through twelve days and will reach the $50 million mark either today or Thursday. Look for Dawn Treader (and family films in general) to continue to hold up nicely throughout the holiday period, especially with fellow Fox release Gulliver's Travels not expected to make a major impact at the box office.

Tangled experienced another strong daily hold on Tuesday to remain in fourth place with $2.46 million. The computer animated film from Disney was up 24 percent from Monday and up a massive 146 percent from last Tuesday. Tangled cleared the $130 million mark yesterday and now boasts a four-week domestic gross of $132.37 million.

The Fighter rounded out the day's unchanged top five with $1.90 million. Paramount's Oscar hopeful for Best Picture starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale was up a healthy 17 percent over Monday. The Fighter has grossed $16.09 million after five days of wide release (and a week of platform release). That places the film 26 percent behind the five-day start of 2006's Rocky Balboa.
