'No Strings Attached' Easily Grabs Top Spot

on January 23, 2011 by Phil Contrino

According to studio estimates, No Strings Attached is on pace for $20.3 million during its debut frame. While not an overly strong opening, it is right in line with expectations. The rom-com came with a modest production budget of only $25 million.

The Green Hornet will drop to second place during its sophomore frame. $18.1 million is what the unconventional superhero flick is on pace for. At this point, it's highly unlikely that The Green Hornet will hold on enough to top Knocked Up's $149 million haul in order to become Seth Rogen's highest grossing effort as a leading man.

Despite mostly negative word-of-mouth, The Dilemma was able to hold its audience reasonably well. Still, the comedy is a commercial dud. The combo of Vince Vaughn and Kevin James should be delivering stronger grosses.

The Way Back is off to a modest start. Director Peter Weir's latest was simply overshadowed by more flashy Oscar contenders.
