According to studio estimates, The Roommate is on pace for $15.6 million during its debut frame. That gives the thriller only the 8th best Super Bowl weekend debut of all time. The Roommate raked in $6.4 million on Friday and $6.85 million on Saturday. Sony is projecting $2.35 million for Sunday. 65% of the opening weekend audience was female and 61% was under 21. Moviegoers under 18 gave the film a respectable B rating.

Sanctum is also off to a relatively slow start. The James Cameron-produced action flick won't even reach $10 million this weekend. 17% of Sanctum's weekend gross came from 178 3D IMAX engagements. Surprisingly, 47% of the audience was male and 53% was female. 35% was under 30. Sanctum scored an underwhelming C+ rating from CinemaScore.

The Rite was able to barely maintain its lead over The Mechanic. The Jason Statham action flick will clearly be hit much harder by the Super Bowl than The Rite will.

Weekend receipts will total around $88 milliona 22.8% drop from the same weekend last year. This marks the 13th straight weekend that grosses are down from the previous year. 2011's domestic total trails 2010's by 27.5% at the exact same point in the year.

Check back tomorrow for weekend actuals.
