'On Stranger Tides' On Pace For $90 Million+

on May 21, 2011 by Phil Contrino

With $35 million in the bank on Friday, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is on pace for a debut of $92 million. This is still a very successful opening even though Disney was certainly hoping to hit $100 million. The buzz surrounding the film is strong. Nearly 84,000 Flixster users have combined to give the sequel a healthy 77% approval rating, and the CinemaScore rating is a B+. Internationally, On Stranger Tides has already grossed $92.1 million.

With $6.38 million on Friday, Bridesmaids is holding up very well. Universal's comedy was able to easily edge past Thor to claim the #2 spot. The fact that the Pirates of the Caribbean films have plenty of female fans makes the hold even more impressive.
