The Help passed the $100 million mark on Tuesday, while Rise of the Planet of the Apes passed the $150 million mark.

‘The Help’ Reaches $100 Million Milestone

The Help grossed $2.16 million on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a 16th consecutive day. In the process the well-received Disney released DreamWorks film surpassed the $100 million domestic milestone. The film reached the milestone in 21 days and represents the second film featuring Emma Stone to gross at least $100 million (joining 2007's Superbad). The Help was up 20 percent over Monday and down just 30 percent from last Tuesday as the film continues to display very strong holding power. The Help has registered an impressive total gross to opening weekend ratio of 3.87 to 1 thus far and is set to remain strong over the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend.

Meanwhile, Fox's Rise of the Planet of the Apes topped the $150 million domestic mark on Tuesday. The successful science fiction reboot took third place for the day with $1.06 million. That was up 14 percent over Monday and down 42 percent from last Tuesday. Rise of the Planet of the Apes boasts a total gross to opening weekend ratio of 2.75 to 1 so far. Labor Day weekend is traditionally a good weekend for late summer blockbusters, so look for Rise of the Planet of the Apes to hold up nicely hover the holiday frame.

Sony's Colombiana held steady in second place with $1.29 million. The action film starring Zoe Saldana was up a solid 11 percent over Monday, though it should be noted that wide releases in general experienced typically strong Tuesday daily holds yesterday. Colombiana has grossed $12.86 million through five days of release, which places the film 15 percent behind the pace of last year's Machete.

Our Idiot Brother and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark continued to claim fourth and fifth place respectively. The Weinstein Company's Our Idiot Brother was up a healthy 15 percent over Monday to gross $0.996 million. FilmDistrict's Don't Be Afraid of the Dark was up 10 percent over Monday to gross $0.895 million. Respective five-day grosses stand at $10.23 million for Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and at $8.88 million for Our Idiot Brother.
