The Help continued to roll on Wednesday as it led the daily box office for a 17th consecutive day. The Disney released DreamWorks film starring Emma Stone grossed $1.80 million, which was down 17 percent from Tuesday and down 32 percent from last Wednesday. The modestly budgeted film has grossed a very impressive $102.61 million through 22 days of release. The Help is set to hold up very well once again this weekend and is the favorite to remain at the top of the box office over the four-day holiday frame.

The Debt was off to a very solid start on Wednesday with a second place performance of $0.97 million. Given Wednesday's debut, the Focus release staring Helen Mirren is on pace to open above its very modest pre-release expectations. Compared to past Focus releases that were launched the Wednesday before Labor Day weekend, The Debt opened 42 percent softer than the $1.67 million Wednesday start of last year's The American and 4 percent stronger than the $0.93 million opening day of 2005's The Constant Gardener. At its current pace The Debt should gross somewhere in the neighborhood of $11 million to $14 million during its first six days of release.

After holding up relativity well the past few days, Sony's Colombiana lost momentum in a big way on Wednesday by falling 33 percent from Tuesday. The TriStar release starring Zoe Saldana fell from second to third place with a daily gross of $0.87 million. Colombiana has grossed $13.74 million through six days of release, which is on the lower end of expectations and places the film 14 percent behind the pace of last year's Machete.

Fox's Rise of the Planet of the Apes fell one spot and 24 percent from Tuesday to claim fourth place on Wednesday with $0.80 million. The successful science fiction reboot was down a solid 42 percent from last Wednesday. Rise of the Planet of the Apes has grossed $151.46 million in 27 days and should hold up very well over Labor Day weekend.
