'Dolphin Tale' Headed For #1 Finish; 'Courageous' Leads Newcomers

on October 01, 2011 by Phil Contrino

Even though it was overshadowed by The Lion King 3D during its opening weekend, Dolphin Tale will pull off a #1 finish during its sophomore frame. The Warner Bros. release managed $3.465 million on Friday, and it's bound to improve upon that on Saturday. The market is ripe for family entertainment right now and Dolphin Tale is filling that need in a big way.

Courageous is off to a great start. The inspirational drama managed $3.1 million on Friday without the benefit of playing on nearly as many screens as its fellow newcomers. Nearly 5,000 Flixster users have combined to give Courageous a promising 88% approval rating.

50/50 and Dream House are running very close to each other. 50/50 has the edge thanks to a 91% approval rating from more than 15,000 Flixster users. Dream House has a 62% rating from more than 8,500 users.

What's Your Number? has landed with a resounding thud. The romantic comedy managed only $2.05 million on Friday. Slightly more than 9,000 Flixster users have combined to give What's Your Number? a weak 67% approval rating.
