Immortals continued to lead the midweek box office with ease on Tuesday.

‘Immortals’ #1 on Tuesday with $2.63 Million

on November 16, 2011 by Daniel Garris

Relativity's Immortals grossed $2.63 million on Tuesday to remain in first place at the daily box office for a fifth straight day. The Tarsem Singh directed 3D action film was up 8 percent over Monday.  While it experienced the day's poorest daily hold among wide releases,  Immortals continues to show signs of stabilizing in the days after Saturday's very sharp daily decline. However, the film is still likely to take a big hit in its second weekend given just how front-loaded it was towards Friday last weekend. With that said, Immortals continues to exceed expectations with a five-day start of $37.28 million. That places the film 9 percent behind the pace of 2008's 10,000 B.C.

Jack and Jill held steady in second place with $1.296 million. The Adam Sandler comedy vehicle from Sony was up a healthy 28 percent from Monday, though the film's midweek business continues to remain soft as a result of skewing heavily towards families. Jack and Jill is performing slightly above expectations with a five-day take of $27.31 million. However, the film is currently running a lackluster 30 percent behind the pace of this year's Just Go with It and is very likely to experience a big decline in its second weekend.

Warner's J. Edgar was up one spot and 24 percent over Monday to claim third on Tuesday with $1.038 million. While reviews have been disappointing for The Clint Eastwood directed biopic starring Leonardo DiCaprio, midweek grosses are being helped out so far by the fact that the film is skewing extremely heavily towards older moviegoers. J. Edgar has grossed $13.19 million after five days of wide release, which places the film 7 percent behind the pace of last year's Hereafter.

Puss in Boots slid one spot to take fourth with $1.020 million. The computer animated film from Paramount and DreamWorks Animation was up 11 percent over Monday, but down a sharp 58 percent from last Tuesday. Although last Tuesday's grosses were inflated by Election Day, Puss in Boots is nonetheless losing significant momentum as the release of Warner's Happy Feet Two quickly approaches. The 19-day total for Puss in Boots stands at $109.98 million.
