Puss in Boots grossed $1.64 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for ninth time over the past eleven days. On the heels of a simply amazing second weekend hold, the computer animated film from Paramount and DreamWorks Animation fell 84 percent from Sunday and a slim 22.5 percent from last Monday's Halloween performance. Puss in Boots has now grossed $77.16 million through eleven days of release and is already in great shape to hold up very well once again this coming weekend.
Universal's Tower Heist took second place with $1.52 million. The Brett Ratner directed comedy starring Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy trailed Puss in Boots by $121,470 for the day. Tower Heist was down 72 percent from Sunday, which represented a disappointing first Monday hold given that the film opened below expectations this past weekend. Tower Heist has grossed $25.54 million in four days of release, which places the film a lackluster 27 percent behind the pace of last year's Due Date.
A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas placed in third with $1.03 million. Warner's 3D comedy sequel was down 64 percent from Sunday, which represented one of the day's stronger daily holds among wide releases. However, it should be noted that R-rated comedies tend to have strong first Monday holds. A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas has grossed a modest $13.99 million in four days. That places the film 14 percent behind the pace of 2008's Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.
Fox's In Time finished in fourth with $0.56 million. The sci-fi film starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried fell 68 percent from Sunday and 47 percent from last Monday. Thanks in part to a very solid second weekend hold, In Time has grossed $24.55 million in eleven days. That places the film 7 percent behind the pace of this year's Red Riding Hood. The film is performing stronger internationally, where it has grossed $38.50 million thus far.
Paramount's Paranormal Activity 3 rounded out the day's top five with $0.51 million. The blockbuster horror sequel fell 70 percent from Sunday and a massive 80 percent from last Monday's Halloween inflated performance. Paranormal Activity 3 has grossed $95.62 million in 18 days of release, leaving it just $4.38 million away from reaching the $100 million domestic milestone.
