'Puss In Boots' Poised To Stay #1; 'Tower Heist' Underwhelms

on November 05, 2011 by Phil Contrino

With an impressive $7.8 million in the bank on Friday, Puss In Boots will easily remain #1 during its sophomore frame. The animated spin-off is making up for the fact that opening during Halloween weekend kept most of its fans away from movie theaters. Word of mouth is very strong thanks to an 81% approval rating from nearly 18,000 Flixster users.

The combined star power of Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller was only strong enough to help Tower Heist rake in an underwhelming $8.1 million on Friday. Buzz is weak for the Universal comedy: nearly 9,500 Flixster users have combined to deliver a disappointing 68% approval rating.

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas managed $5.435 million on Friday. The stoner comedy will likely fall short of matching the $14.9 million debut of 2008's Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. That's a sad reality considering that Christmas has the benefit of being in 3D. Luckily, word of mouth is strong thanks to an 85% approval rating from more than 14,400 Flixster users.
