The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 remained #1 on Wednesday, while The Artist revived a boost thanks to its NYFCC win.

‘Breaking Dawn – Part 1’ Leads Wednesday with $2.15 Million

on December 01, 2011 by Daniel Garris

Summit's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 grossed $2.15 million on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a 13th consecutive day. The blockbuster fantasy sequel fell 19 percent from Tuesday, which was in line with the type of daily declines experienced by wide releases in general yesterday. Breaking Dawn - Part 1 was down a sharp 83 percent from last Wednesday's Thanksgiving Eve inflated performance. With a 13-day total of $228.15 million, Breaking Dawn - Part 1 continues to run 4 percent behind the pace of 2009's The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Look for Breaking Dawn - Part 1 to find itself in a close battle for first place this weekend with The Muppets.

Speaking of The Muppets, the franchise re-launch from Disney held steady in second for the day with $0.81 million. The Muppets was down 22 percent from Tuesday and down 88 percent from last Wednesday's opening day performance. The Muppets has grossed $44.44 million through eight days of release, which places the film 15 percent behind the pace of 2007's Enchanted. With midweek grosses coming back down to Earth for The Muppets during the midweek, the film should pick back up nicely over the weekend with the help of family audiences.

Fellow family films Hugo, Happy Feet Two and Arthur Christmas placed fifth through seventh for the day. Paramount's Hugo fell 23 percent from Tuesday to take fifth with $0.474 million, Warner's Happy Feet Two fell 24 percent to claim sixth with $0.447 million and Sony's Arthur Christmas finished in seventh with $0.371 million. Respective percentage declines from last Wednesday were 72 percent for Hugo, 85 percent for Happy Feet Two and 84 percent for Arthur Christmas. Happy Feet Two has grossed $45.32 million in 13 days, while respective eight-day totals for Hugo and Arthur Christmas stand at $17.04 million and $17.55 million.

On the platform front, The Weinstein Company's The Artist was up 13 percent over Tuesday to gross $21,884 on Wednesday from 4 locations in New York and Los Angeles. Yesterday's performance came on the heels of The Artist being awarded Best Film by the New York Film Critics Circle. The Artist has grossed $265,625 through six days of release. The film will be playing in 6 locations this weekend, as it opens in 2 San Francisco area locations on Friday.

Also receiving expansions this weekend are Fox Searchlight's The Descendants (which will be playing in 574 locations) and Hugo (which will be playing in 1,840 locations).
