Relativity's Act of Valor remained comfortably in first place on Monday with $1.95 million. The modestly budgeted war film featuring Navy SEALs has led the daily box office for four consecutive days. Thanks in part to an effective marketing campaign, Act of Valor has grossed a healthy $26.42 million in just four days. Act of Valor fell 67 percent from Sunday. That represented one of the day's stronger daily holds among wide releases, which a positive early sign for the film's holding power going forward.

Tyler Perry's Good Deeds placed in second with $0.95 million. The latest Tyler Perry film from Lionsgate was down 74 percent from Sunday. Thus far Good Deeds isn't living up the box office standards of Perry's previous films. Good Deeds is clearly feeling an effect from not being based on one of Perry's pre-existing plays and or including Perry's Madea character. With a four-day start of $16.53 million, Good Deeds is currently running 10 percent behind the pace of 2008's The Family That Preys.

Safe House grossed $0.82 million to take third place. The Universal action thriller starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds fell 70 percent from Sunday. Safe House continues to exceed expectations with an 18-day take of $98.45 million. That leaves the film just $1.55 million away from becoming the second release of 2012 to reach the $100 million domestic milestone (Sony's The Vow being the first).

On the heels of winning Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor on Sunday, The Artist was down just 50 percent on Monday to gross $354,870. Other post-Oscar grosses on Monday included $191,757 for Hugo (down 51 percent from Sunday), $157,323 for The Descendants (down 68 percent) and $104,617 for The Iron Lady (down a slim 36 percent). Respective current total grosses stand at $78.62 million for The Descendants, at $69.55 million for Hugo, $32.13 million for The Artist and at $25.83 for The Iron Lady.
