Sony's The Vow topped the daily box office on Monday with $3.33 million. The romantic drama from Screen Gems starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum fell 64 percent from Sunday, which represented the day's best daily hold among wide releases. The film was no doubt helped by Monday being the eve of Valentine's Day and it should experience an even more impressive daily hold today with the aid of the holiday. The Vow has grossed an impressive $44.53 million in four days, which places the film 37 percent ahead of the pace of 2010's Dear John and 22 percent ahead of the pace of last year's Just Go With It.

Safe House placed in second with $2.95 million. Universal's action thriller starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds fell 71 percent from Sunday. Safe House continues to hold its own against The Vow with a stronger than expected four-day start of $43.12 million. Compared to previous Denzel Washington vehicles, Safe House is currently running 38 percent ahead of the pace of 2006's Inside Man and 12 percent ahead of 2010's The Book of Eli.

Warner's Journey 2: The Mysterious Island took third with $1.28 million. The 3D adventure sequel starring Dwayne ‘The Rock' Johnson fell 84 percent from Sunday. That is a sure sign of just how heavily the film is skewing towards family audiences. While midweek grosses will be limited for Journey 2 this week, the film is extremely likely to pick back up in a big way over the upcoming holiday weekend. Journey 2 has grossed a stronger than expected $28.61 million in four days.

Fox's Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D landed in fourth with $0.92 million. The 3D re-issue of the 1999 blockbuster fell 83 percent from Sunday. After a very solid start on Friday, The Phantom Menace 3D has displayed early signs of significant front-loading in the days since then. The Phantom Menace 3D has grossed $23.39 million in four days. That places the lifetime domestic total for The Phantom Menace at $454.48 million.
