Marvel's The Avengers grossed $7.92 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for an eleventh consecutive day. The ensemble superhero blockbuster from Disney was down 74 percent from Sunday's Mother's Day performance and down 58 percent from last Monday. The Avengers has now grossed $380.995 million through eleven days of release, which currently ranks as 15th largest unadjusted domestic gross of all-time. The film is currently running 17.5 percent stronger than 2008's The Dark Knight, 67 percent stronger than 2002's Spider-Man and 110 percent stronger than 2008's Iron Man. Either today or Wednesday, The Avengers will overtake Lionsgate's The Hunger Games to become the highest grossing release of 2012 so far domestically.

Warner's Dark Shadows placed in a distant second with $2.31 million. The latest collaboration between Johnny Depp and Tim Burton fell 75 percent from its Mother's Day performance on Sunday. Yesterday's decline could be an early indication that the film's strong Saturday and Sunday holds this past weekend had more to do with Mother's Day than they did with early word of mouth. Dark Shadows has grossed $31.997 million in four days, which is a bit below pre-release expectations. The film is currently running 55 percent ahead of the pace of 2005's Corpse Bride and 51 percent behind the pace of 2005's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Fox Searchlight's The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel continues to post impressive grosses in limited release. The John Madden directed film starring Judi Dench grossed $279,112 for the day, which was good enough for seventh place among all films. The film earned a per-location average of $1,568 from 178 locations and was down a very reasonable 70 percent from Sunday's strong Mother's Day performance. The eleven-day total for The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel stands at $4.02 million.
