With a weekend estimate of $103.163 million, Marvel's The Avengers will shatter the $75.6 million second-weekend record set by Avatar. The Avengers will be the first blockbuster to hit $100 million during its sophomore frame.

Dark Shadows took in a modest $9.270 million on Friday and $10.915 million on Saturday, which means that its weekend total won't even match what The Avengers did on Friday. Word-of-mouth is pretty lackluster: more than 68,000 Flixster users have combined to give the gothic comedy a 58% approval rating. The audience breakdown is 73% over 25/27% under 25 and 57% female/43% male.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Girl in Progress are both doing well in limited release. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel grossed $665,000 on Friday and $1.075 million on Saturday, while Girl in Progress grossed $409,000 on Friday and $445,000 on Saturday. Expect Marigold to have a long, healthy domestic run. As for Girl in Progress, it's the second consecutive Pantelion release to debut in the top 10.

Domestic comparison data:
