'Madagascar 3' Stays #1; 'Rock of Ages' and 'That's My Boy' Disappoint

on June 16, 2012 by Phil Contrino

With $10.025 million in the bank on Friday, Madagascar 3 will easily hold on to the top spot. The animated flick proves that families were starving for something to see this summer. Madagascar 3 needs to make as much as it can this week because Brave will steal away its audience next week.

Prometheus grabbed $5.825 million on Friday, which will be good enough for 2nd place. There are plenty of detractors badmouthing the sci-fi flick, and the result is an underwhelming sophomore frame.

Rock of Ages is a dud. The '80s-themed musical took in only $5.350 million on Friday. Director Adam Shankman's film is clearly not roping in enough couples.

That's My Boy is also off to a very weak start. Adam Sandler's latest grabbed only $4.6 million on Friday. Moviegoers must still be feeling jaded after Jack and Jill, Sandler's atrocious effort from November 2011.
