With $20.2 million in the bank on Friday and $17.9 million on Saturday, Ted has shattered expectations. Universal's comedy easily tops The Hangover's $44.9 million debut ($47.5 million adjusted) in order to claim the best opening for an original, non-sequel R-rated comedy. The audience breakdown is 56% male/44% female and 52% over 30/48% under 30. Word of mouth is very strong thanks to an 89% combined approval rating from nearly 55,000 Flixster users. Welcome to the world of theatrical releases, Seth MacFarlane.

Magic Mike is also doing incredibly well. Warner Bros. reports that the stripper flick raked in $19.4 million on Friday and $11.4 million on Saturday for a disconcerting 41% daily drop. Magic Mike will mark the best unadjusted opening of director Steven Soderbergh's career, topping the $38.1 million debut of Ocean's 11 ($53.4 million adjusted). As for star Channing Tatum, Magic Mike will rank behind only G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra's $54.7 million opening. The audience breakdown is 73% female/27% male and 57% under 35/43% over 35. More than 29,000 Flixster users have combined to give Magic Mike a respectable 80% approval rating.

Brave will have to settle for third place during its sophomore frame. As odd as it sounds, the female-skewing animated flick was likely hurt by the immense amount of enthusiasm women are showing for Magic Mike.

Tyler Perry can always rely on Madea. Madea's Witness Protection grabbed $10.18 million on Friday and $9.37 million on Saturday. The comedy marks a return to form for Perry after the relatively weak performance of Good Deeds ($15.5 million opening/$35 million cume). More than 11,300 Flixster users have combined to give Witness Protection a healthy 88% approval rating.

People Like Us is a dud. A 71% approval rating from more than 6,500 Flixster users does not bode well for the drama's staying power.
