The Dark Knight Rises’ Passes $200 Million Mark

on July 26, 2012 by Daniel Garris

Warner's The Dark Knight Rises grossed $13.77 million on Wednesday to remain comfortably in first at the daily box office. In the process the third installment of the Christopher Nolan directed trilogy surpassed the $200 million domestic milestone. The Dark Knight Rises reached the $200 million milestone in six days, which made it the fifth quickest film ever to do so. The Dark Knight Rises has grossed $211.81 million in six days, which represents the fifth largest six-day start on record and places the film 5 percent behind the $222.15 million six-day start of 2008's The Dark Knight.

The Dark Knight Rises did fall 22 percent from Tuesday, which was a significantly sharper percentage decline than the 12 percent slide The Dark Knight experienced on its first Wednesday when it grossed $18.38 million. On the other hand, The Dark Knight Rises held up slightly better yesterday than a number of other films in wide release, which is a positive sign at this point in the film's run. IMAX grosses were responsible for $2.156 million (15.7 percent) of Wednesday's $13.77 million take and stabilized more from Tuesday's performance than did yesterday's non-IMAX grosses. The film's six-day IMAX total stands at $26.699 million, which represents 12.6 percent of the film's six-day domestic total.

Internationally, The Dark Knight Rises grossed $15.1 million from 23 foreign markets on Wednesday. That brings the film's current international total to $125.3 million and worldwide haul to $337.1 million.

Fox's Ice Age: Continental Drift held steady in second with $2.82 million. The fourth installment of the computer animated franchise fell 25 percent from Tuesday and 45 percent from last Wednesday. Continental Drift has grossed $98.32 million in 13 days and is set to surpass the $100 million domestic milestone today. The film is currently running 20 percent behind the pace of 2009's Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
