'The Possession' Rules Weak Frame; 'The Words' and 'The Cold Light of Day' Land With A Thud

on September 08, 2012 by Phil Contrino

With $2.9 million in the bank on Friday, The Possession is on pace to easily remain #1 during what will be the slowest weekend of the year.

The top 10 films are set to hit a combined total of $44 million, so the weekend as a whole will come in below the previous 2012 low of $97.4 million during August 24-26.

The Words debuted to only $1.6 million. Bradley Cooper's drawing power needs to be questioned in a big way right now.

The Cold Light of Day took in $637K, so it won't even crack the top 10. Bruce Willis should rebound later this month with Looper.

Paramount was able to generate $438K on Friday with Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark IMAX.
