$237.18 Million for 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' in Two Weeks

on November 30, 2012 by Daniel Garris

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 rounded out its second week in theatres with $2.16 million on Thursday. The fifth and final installment of the blockbuster franchise has now led the daily box office for 14 consecutive days. For the week, Breaking Dawn - Part 2 led the way with $53.46 million. Breaking Dawn - Part 2 has grossed $237.18 million in 14 days, placing it 3 percent ahead of the $230.39 million two-week take of last year's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and 1 percent behind the $239.94 million two-week total of 2009's The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Breaking Dawn - Part 2 should find itself in a close race for first place this coming weekend along side Skyfall and Lincoln.

Skyfall grossed $1.864 million on Thursday. That was up 2 percent over Wednesday and enough to hold off Lincoln by a slim $40,013 to remain in second place for the day. Skyfall placed in second for the week with $43.39 million. That was down 34 percent from last week's performance and brings the film's 22-day total to an excellent $229.03 million.

Lincoln just missed out on moving into second place with a third place take of $1.824 million. The Steven Spielberg directed drama starring Daniel Day-Lewis was up 3 percent over Wednesday's performance. Lincoln took third place for the week with $33.03 million, which was down a slim 8 percent from the previous frame and brings the film's total gross to a stronger than expected $70.19 million. Based on its performance throughout the midweek, odds are strong that Lincoln will hold up quite well over the weekend.

Life of Pi was essentially unchanged from Wednesday to remain in fourth place with $1.32 million. The Ang Lee directed 3D film grossed $28.24 million during the week to take fourth and has now grossed a stronger than expected $36.36 million in nine days.

Surprisingly, Life of Pi has generated a stronger nine-day start than that of Rise of the Guardians. The 3D computer animated film from DreamWorks Animation placed in fifth on Thursday with $0.71 million, which was up 7 percent and one spot over Wednesday. Rise of the Guardians grossed $26.88 million during the week to place in fifth and is off to a softer than expected $35.45 million start in nine-days.
