Evil Dead rounded out its first week in theatres with a first place take of $1.35 million on Thursday. Sony's modestly budgeted horror remake fell a slim 1 percent from Wednesday's performance. Evil Dead was this week's top film with a seven-day start of $32.04 million. That was on the high end of expectations and places the film 25 percent ahead of the $25.60 million seven-day start of this year's Texas Chainsaw 3D and 4.5 percent behind the $33.55 million seven-day take of 2004's Dawn of the Dead.
Paramount's G.I. Joe: Retaliation held steady in second place with $1.21 million. The 3D action sequel featuring Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis was up 4 percent over Wednesday and was down 60 percent from last Thursday. G.I. Joe: Retaliation has grossed $91.63 million in 15 days and in all likelihood will surpass the $100 million domestic mark before the end of the weekend. The film placed in second for the week with $26.06 million.
Universal's Jurassic Park 3D grossed $1.05 million to remain in third. The 3D reissue of the 1993 blockbuster was up 1 percent over Wednesday. Jurassic Park 3D placed in fourth for the week with a seven-day start of $23.11 million. The film is currently running 11 percent behind the $25.87 million seven-day take of last year's The Phantom Menace 3D. The lifetime unadjusted domestic gross for Jurassic Park currently stands at $380.18 million.
The Croods took in $0.977 million to finish in fourth place once again. The 3D computer animated film from Fox and DreamWorks Animation was up a healthy 10 percent over Wednesday, but was still down a sharp 73 percent from last Thursday's post-Easter inflated performance. The Croods took third place for the week with $24.62 million and has grossed $129.32 million in three weeks.
