Evil Dead led the daily box office on Monday with $1.70 million. While it was this past weekend's top film, Sony's modestly budgeted horror remake had placed in third on both Saturday and Sunday. Evil Dead fell 67 percent from Sunday's performance, which represented one of the day's better daily holds among wide releases. In general, midweek grosses came back down to Earth on Monday as a result of Easter Break now being over and from competition from the NCAA Basketball Championship game. Evil Dead has grossed $27.48 million in four days, which is on the high end of expectations. The film is currently running 20 percent ahead of the $22.89 million four-day start of this year's Texas Chainsaw 3D.

Paramount's G.I. Joe: Retaliation placed in second with $1.24 million. The 3D action sequel featuring Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis was down 78 percent from Sunday and down 73 percent from last Monday's inflated post-Easter performance. G.I. Joe: Retaliation has grossed $87.67 million in twelve days, which places the film 15.5 percent behind the $103.78 million twelve-day take of 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Universal's Jurassic Park 3D took third place with $1.08 million. The 3D reissue of the Steven Spielberg directed 1993 blockbuster fell 76 percent from Sunday. Jurassic Park 3D has grossed a solid $19.70 million in four days, which places the film 16 percent behind the $23.39 million four-day start of last year's Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 3D. The lifetime unadjusted domestic gross for Jurassic Park currently stands at $376.77 million.

The Croods finished in fourth on Monday with $0.97 million. The 3D computer animated film from Fox and DreamWorks Animation fell 83 percent from Sunday and 81 percent from last Monday. Obviously, with spring break and Easter now behind us, The Croods will be much more of a weekend film going forward given its appeal with family audiences. The Croods has grossed $126.32 million in 18 days, placing it just 6 percent behind the $134.79 million 18-day gross of 2010's How to Train Your Dragon.
