The Croods led the way on Thursday with $3.66 million. The 3D computer animated film from Fox and DreamWorks was up a healthy 12 percent over Wednesday and down just 28 percent from last Thursday. The Croods has led the daily box office for three of the past four days, but will fall out of first place today with the arrival of Evil Dead in the marketplace. The Croods placed in second for the week with $42.52 million. That was down 32 percent from the film's opening week performance and places the film's two-week total at $104.70 million.

Paramount's G.I. Joe: Retaliation took second place on Thursday with $3.01 million. The 3D action sequel was up 1 percent over Wednesday and down 71 percent from last Thursday's opening day performance. G.I. Joe: Retaliation was the week's top film with $55.06 million and has grossed $65.56 million through its first eight days of release. The film is currently running 21 percent behind the $83.28 million eight-day start of 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Sony's Evil Dead was off to a very nice start last night with an estimated $1.8 million from 10 p.m. and midnight screenings. That strongly suggests that the film will indeed open in first place this coming weekend as has been widely expected. The late night gross for Evil Dead was stronger than the $1.15 million take of Texas Chainsaw 3D earlier this year and was just below the $2.0 million midnight start of last year's The Devil Inside.

FilmDistrict's Olympus Has Fallen edged out Disney's Oz: The Great and Powerful for third place. The two films were separated by a very slim $2,909 for the day, as Olympus Has Fallen grossed $1.480 million, while Oz took in $1.477 million. For the week, Olympus Has Fallen placed in fourth with $20.33 million and Oz took fifth with $17.92 million. Respective total grosses stand at $204.60 million for Oz: The Great and Powerful through 28 days and at $61.07 million for Olympus Has Fallen in two weeks.

Tyler Perry's Temptation rounded out its first week in theatres with $1.33 million. The Lionsgate release fell 3 percent and two spots from Wednesday to place in fifth on Thursday. Temptation took third place for the week with a stronger than expected seven-day start of $28.38 million. However, as is typically the case for Perry's films, Temptation appears as though it will fall off quickly going forward.

Fellow new release The Host placed in sixth with $0.796 million. The young adult sci-fi film from Open Road debuted in sixth place for the week with an underwhelming seven-day take of $14.43 million.
