Universal reports that Despicable Me 2 added $9.67 million on Wednesday as it dropped 20 percent from Tuesday and increased its domestic haul to $175.33 million in 8 days. That's only 5.5 percent off of Toy Story 3's domestic total at the same point, and 25.9 percent ahead of Monsters University through its eighth day. As a note, both of those films' eighth days occurred on a Friday. The well-received Illumination Entertainment sequel is projected to bag another $46 million this weekend.

Fox's The Heat continues to enjoy strong word of mouth as it grabbed another $3.0 million yesterday, a 14 percent decline from Tuesday. The Sandra Bullock-Melissa McCarthy comedy has tallied $95.64 million through 13 days of release and should cross the $100 million threshold on Friday. The film is currently running 22.6 percent ahead of The Proposal at the same point.

Pixar's Monsters University overtook The Lone Ranger for third place on Wednesday as the former bagged $2.64 million, down 17 percent from Tuesday. The Monsters sequel has amassed $224.63 million in 20 days, putting it 28.2 percent behind the pace of Toy Story 3 and 44.8 percent ahead of the pace of Cars 2.

The aforementioned Lone Ranger slipped into fourth place as it dropped 22 percent from Tuesday's performance to $2.59 million yesterday. Disney's expensive western has wrangled up $57.66 million in 8 days, 15.5 percent ahead of Johnny Depp's Public Enemies four years ago and just 1.7 percent ahead of the pace of 1999's summer western misfire, Wild Wild West.

Meanwhile, Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain continues to perform admirably in limited release as it banked another $909,774 yesterday--a 16 percent decline from Tuesday. As the film has already surpassed Hart's $7.71 million box office total for 2011's Laugh at My Pain, the current $20.53 million domestic cume for Let Me Explain is a runaway success for the budding star.
