on September 25, 2013 by Daniel Garris

Warner's Prisoners took in $2.18 million on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a fifth consecutive day. The thriller starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal was up a very healthy 31 percent over Monday, though it should also be noted that wide releases aimed at adult moviegoers held up well in general on Tuesday. Prisoners has grossed a very solid $24.65 million through five days of release. That places the film 6 percent behind the $26.25 million five-day start of 2011's Contagion, which increased 32 percent on its first Tuesday to gross a similar $2.19 million.

Insidious Chapter 2 held steady in second place with $0.782 million. FilmDistrict's successful low-budget horror sequel was up 17 percent over Monday and down 58 percent from last Tuesday. Insidious Chapter 2 has grossed $61.61 million in twelve days, placing it 10 percent behind the $68.19 million twelve-day take of 2010's Paranormal Activity 2 and an impressive 120 percent ahead of the $28.02 million twelve-day gross of 2011's Insidious.

Relativity's The Family grossed $0.741 million to remain in third. The Luc Besson directed film starring Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer trailed Insidious Chapter 2 by just $41,211 for the day. The Family was up 35 percent over Monday and down 50 percent from last Tuesday. The twelve-day total for The Family stands at $26.93 million, which places it 10 percent behind the $29.84 million twelve-day take of 2008's Righteous Kill.

On the platform front, Fox Searchlight's Enough Said took in $21,152 from 4 locations, while Universal's Rush grossed $19,742 from 5 locations. That gave Enough Said and Rush respective daily per-location averages of $5,288 and $3,948. Enough Said has grossed $326,937 in one week and will be playing in just over 200 locations on Friday. Rush has grossed $225,180 in five days and will expand into wide release on Friday.
