'Gravity' Tops $135 Million on Wednesday

Warner Bros.' Gravity remained in first place on Wednesday with $3.49 million added to its haul, down just 13 percent from the same day last week. The highly buzzed flick has amassed $136 million domestically thus far and is projected to remain in first place for its upcoming third weekend. Through the same points in release, Gravity is performing 27 percent ahead of the pace of The Blind Side and 15 percent behind Inception.

Captain Phillips continues to perform well following its healthy opening. The Tom Hanks-led thriller bagged $2.09 million yesterday for a six-day cume of $34.02 million. Phillips is also heading toward a strong sophomore weekend hold and is currently performing 4.5 percent behind The Departed's pace.

Sony's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 pulled $0.67 million yesterday, a decline of just 18 percent from last Wednesday. The animated sequel continues to perform well as the marketplace's only offering for kids and families. The film's total to-date is $82.2 million, 1.6 behind its predecessor at the same point.

Machete Kills grossed $0.29 million on Wednesday, a 21 percent slide from Tuesday's gross. Robert Rodriguez's sequel has tallied $4.94 million in its first six days--nearly 69 percent behind the pace of its predecessor.
