'Frozen' Takes in $2.46 Million on Tuesday to Remain #1

on December 11, 2013 by Daniel Garris

Disney's Frozen grossed $2.46 million on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a fourth consecutive day. The 3D computer animated blockbuster from Walt Disney Animation was up 20 percent over Monday's already impressive daily hold and was down a very slim 1.5 percent from last Tuesday. Frozen continues to exceed expectations in a big way with $138.77 million after two weeks of wide release. That places the film a strong 40 percent ahead of the $98.88 million 14-day take of 2010's Tangled. Given its holding power on Monday and Tuesday, odds are strong that Frozen will hold up very nicely this coming weekend.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire took in $2.37 million to remain in a close second place on Tuesday. Lionsgate's blockbuster sequel starring Jennifer Lawrence trailed Frozen by $90,944 for the day. Catching Fire increased 22 percent over Monday's performance and was down a respectable 41 percent from last Tuesday. Catching Fire has grossed a massive $340.17 million through 19 days of release. That places the film 10 percent ahead of the $309.89 million 19-day take of last year's The Hunger Games.

Relativity's Out of the Furnace remained in third with $0.59 million. The ensemble drama featuring Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson was up 18 percent over Monday. Despite very solid daily holds on Monday and Tuesday, Out of the Furnace has grossed a disappointing $6.34 million after five days of wide release. The film is running 21 percent softer than the $8.07 million five-day start of last year's Killing Them Softly (which increased 27 percent on its first Tuesday to gross $0.70 million).

Thor: The Dark World grossed $0.51 million to continue to claim fourth. The blockbuster superhero sequel from Disney and Marvel was up 28 percent over Monday and down 22 percent from last Tuesday. With a 33-day take of $194.62 million, Thor: The Dark World is currently $5.38 million away from reaching the $200 million domestic milestone.
