'Non-Stop' Remains in First Place on Tuesday; 'Son of God' Continues to Claim Second

Universal's Non-Stop took in $2.56 million on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for the fourth time in the past five days. The action thriller starring Liam Neeson was up a healthy 27 percent over Monday's performance. Non-Stop has grossed $33.46 million in its first five days of release, as the film continues to perform on the very high end of pre-release expectations. Non-Stop is currently running 22 percent ahead of the $27.42 million five-day start of 2011's Unknown.

Fox's Son of God held steady in second place with $1.79 million. The modestly budgeted biblical epic constructed from The Bible television mini-series was up a very solid 22 percent over Monday. Son of God has grossed a stronger than expected $28.86 million in five days and should clear the $30 million mark today. The film continues to perform similar to 2012's Act of Valor, which grossed $28.42 million in its first five days of release.

The LEGO Movie grossed $1.55 million to remain in third. Warner's 3D computer animated blockbuster was up 22 percent over Monday and down a very slim 2 percent from last Tuesday. The LEGO Movie has grossed a very impressive $211.95 million in 26 days, which places the film 18 percent ahead of the $179.54 million 26-day take of 2012's The Lorax.

Sony claimed both fourth and fifth place on Tuesday, as Pompeii took in $0.558 million, while The Monuments Men took in $0.529 million. Pompeii was up a very strong 41 percent over Monday and The Monuments Men was up 32 percent. Respective total grosses stand at a disappointing $18.72 million in twelve days for Pompeii and at a solid $66.56 million in 26 days for The Monuments Men.

Fox Searchlight's 12 Years a Slave continued to build up some momentum on Tuesday on the heels of its Best Picture win on Sunday. The film grossed $169,383 for the day, which represented a 12 percent increase over Monday and a 125 percent increase over last Tuesday. 12 Years a Slave has grossed $50.66 million to date and will re-expand into additional locations on Friday.
