Paramount's The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water took in $2.50 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for a fourth consecutive day. The 3D animated live-action hybrid film was down 85 percent from Sunday. The SpongeBob Movie continues to exceed expectations in a very big way with a strong $57.87 million in four days. That places the film a very impressive 72 percent ahead of the $33.56 million four-day start of 2004's The SpongeBob Square Pants Movie and 20 percent behind the $72.54 million four-day take of last year's The LEGO Movie. Family films typically hold up well over Presidents Day weekend, so odds are strong that The SpongeBob Movie will hold up well over the next week, especially with no new family films being released this coming weekend.

Warner's American Sniper took second place with $1.59 million. The blockbuster Clint Eastwood directed film starring Bradley Cooper was down 74 percent from Sunday and down 40 percent from last Monday. American Sniper has grossed a massive $282.98 million after 25 days of wide release. That leaves the film just $17.02 million away from becoming the third release of 2014 to reach the $300 million domestic milestone.

Fellow Warner Bros. release Jupiter Ascending claimed third place with $1.29 million. The expensive 3D sci-fi film from The Wachowskis starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis fell 71 percent from Sunday. Jupiter Ascending has grossed a very disappointing (but for the most part expected) $19.67 million in its first four days. That places the film essentially on par with the $19.64 million four-day start of 2008's Speed Racer.

Seventh Son placed in fourth with $0.546 million. The long-delayed 3D fantasy film from Universal was down 72 percent from Sunday. Seventh Son continues to perform on the low end of its very modest pre-release expectations with a four-day start of just $7.76 million. The film is currently running 45 percent behind the $14.16 million four-day take of 2013's R.I.P.D.

The Imitation Game rounded out Monday's top five with $0.393 million. The Best Picture nominee from The Weinstein Company continues to hold up very well as it was down 66 percent from Sunday and down only 11 percent from last Monday. The Imitation Game has grossed $74.94 million to date and will surpass the $75 million mark today.
