Sony's CHAPPiE took in $1.39 million on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a fifth straight day. The Neill Blomkamp directed sci-fifilm was up a solid 27 percent over Monday, though it should be noted that daily percentage increases were strong in general yesterday. CHAPPiE continues to perform below its modest expectations with $15.84 million in five days. That places the film a very disappointing 57 percent behind the $37.15 million five-day start of 2013's Elysium and a slim 4 percent ahead of the $15.26 million five-day take of 2011's Paul.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was up one spot and a strong 45 percent over Monday to move into second place with $1.21 million. The ensemble comedy sequel from Fox Searchlight continued to claim the strongest per-location average of any film in the top ten with a daily average of $770. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is performing towards the higher end of expectations with $10.59 million in five days and is running 24 percent behind the $13.97 million five-day start of last year's The Hundred-Foot Journey.

Warner's Focus was down one spot from Monday to land in third on Tuesday with $1.14 million. The romantic heist film starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie was up 33 percent over Monday and down 38.5 percent from last Tuesday. That represented a solid daily hold, especially since Focus lost IMAX screens to CHAPPiE this week. Focus has grossed $36.57 million in twelve days. The film is running 25 percent behind the $48.58 million twelve-day haul of 2013's After Earth, but that percentage gap will continue to close going forward.

Fox's Kingsman: The Secret Service held steady in fourth place with $0.936 million. The Matthew Vaughn directed graphic novel adaptation starring Colin Firth increased 30 percent over Monday and declined just 20 percent from last Tuesday. Kingsman: The Secret Service has grossed a stronger than expected $99.69 million in 26 days and will surpass the $100 million domestic milestone today.

Fifty Shades of Grey rounded out the day's top five with $0.613 million. Universal's successful erotic romantic drama was up 26 percent over Monday and down 37 percent from last Tuesday. The 26-day total for Fifty Shades of Grey stands at a strong $157.46 million.

Meanwhile, Fox's Unfinished Business continued to disappoint in a big way with an eighth place take of $0.502 million. The Vince Vaughn led R-rated comedy was up 31 percent over Monday. Unfinished Business has only managed a five-day take of $5.66 million, which places the film a massive 73 percent behind the $21.17 million five-day start of 2013's The Internship.
