Please note that some studios are closed for the holidays and are only reporting estimated grosses. Actuals will be reported on Monday, January 4.

Disney reports that Star Wars: The Force Awakens added $28.1 million to its hefty haul yesterday, marking just a 26 percent decline from last Wednesday. That also brings the blockbuster phenomenon's domestic total up to $629.04 million in a mere 13 days, already lifting it ahead of the final $623.4 million domestic total of Marvel's The Avengers in record time. The Force Awakens now stands in fourth place on the all-time domestic chart where it will next pass Jurassic World ($652 million) and Titanic ($659 million) over the next couple of days. By comparison, the film stands 134 percent ahead of Avatar at the same point in its release, and 44 percent ahead of Jurassic World. The Force Awakens is currently targeted to surpass the former's $760.5 million domestic total as the top-grossing U.S. release in history by early next week.

Daddy's Home took in an estimated $6.7 million on Wednesday, bringing its six-day total to $58.8 million. The surprise hit comedy is running 20 percent ahead of the pace of The Other Guys.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip took third place with $4.2 million yesterday. With $52.4 million in the bank, it's running 25 percent ahead of the franchise's 2011 third film.

The Hateful Eight expanded into wide release yesterday with $3.53 million from 1,958 locations. The film will continue adding theaters on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. While yesterday's total is very modest compared to the opening days of Quentin Tarantino's films over the past 12 years, the very late decision to switch to a wide release on December 30 likely resulted in low awareness among audiences. The film has earned $10.2 million since opening in limited release on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, Sisters added $3.2 million in fifth place yesterday for a new total of $46.8 million, while Joy came in sixth place with $2.6 million and a new total of $25.1 million.
