Avatar rounded out its fifth week in theatres with another first place finish at the daily box office. Fox's 3D sci-fi film grossed $3.95 million on Thursday, which was up 4 percent from Wednesday and down 16 percent from last Thursday. For the week Avatar finished in first with $66.33 million and was down only 5 percent from last week. Avatar has led the daily box office for 32 of the past 35 days and now boasts a domestic total of $516.80 million. That gives Avatar a total gross to opening weekend ratio of 6.71 to 1 and places the film $16.55 million behind 2008's The Dark Knight and $83.99 million behind 1997's Titanic.Read more
Fox's Avatar continued to lead the daily box office on Wednesday. James Cameron's 3D blockbuster added another $3.79 million to its massive domestic total, which now stands at $512.85 million through 34 days. Avatar is currently the third highest grossing film of all-time domestically without adjusting for inflation and now trails The Dark Knight by only $20.49 million. At its current rate, Avatar should pass up The Dark Knight on Saturday. The gap between Avatar and Cameron's Titanic stands $87.94 million. After a record-breaking holiday performance over Martin Luther King weekend, Avatar continued to hold up well at the daily box office on Tuesday. Fox's sci-fi blockbuster grossed $4.19 million for the day, which was down 64 percent from Monday and down a slim 17 percent from last Tuesday. Avatar has now led the daily box office for 30 of the past 33 days, which is obviously quite the feat in today's increasingly front-loaded marketplace. Avatar has grossed $509.06 million to date domestically and is now only $24.29 million away from 2008's The Dark Knight and $91.73 million away from 1997's Titanic. For a fourth straight weekend Fox's Avatar led the box office with very impressive results. In doing so, James Cameron's sci-fi blockbuster became the first film since 2008's The Dark Knight to lead the domestic box office for four consecutive frames. Avatar grossed $50.31 million for the weekend, which was down just 27 percent from last weekend. That represents an excellent hold for the weekend after New Year's weekend and set a new record for the largest fourth weekend performance of all time. Avatar easily outpaced the $28.72 million fourth weekend gross of the previous record holder, 1997's Titanic. handful of records: biggest midnight opening, biggest single day gross
and highest November opening weekend. New Moon also passed Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest in order to boast the 3rd highest opening weekend of all time. Based on
domestic exit data, 80% of the audiences was female. Internationally,
the film has made $118.1 million from 25 markets.
The Blind Side performed very well in second place with an estimated haul of $34.5 million. Blind Side now represents star Sandra Bullock's strongest opening weekend by edging past The Proposal's $33.6 million. The Warner Bros.
