Sex and the City 2 and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will square off during Memorial Day Weekend.

This week, we've added Sex and the City 2 and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to our Anticipation Index. SATC 2 hits theaters on May 27, while Prince of Persia lands on May 28.

SATC 2 will serve as the perfect bit of counterprogramming to all the explosions, fight scenes and grandstanding of typical summer blockbusters. The property has a loyal fan base that is bound to have grown since the first film opened to a staggering $56.8 million in May of 2008. Expect the sequel to open to better numbers.

Prince of Persia will try to fall into the success column when it comes to video game adaptations. The genre is certainly more miss than hit, and star Jake Gyllenhaal is not exactly a sure thing at the box office. Yet with similarities to The Mummy and Pirates of the Caribbean, Prince of Persia is bound to find an audience outside of the core fan base. Whether or not it will lead to a viable franchise is uncertain at this time.
