Long Range Forecast: 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,' 'Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked' and 'Young Adult'

Featured Stories - on October 22, 2011 by Phil Contrino

We've added Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked and Young Adult to the Long Range Forecast. Sherlock and Alvin both open on December 16, while Young Adult will expand after a limited release.

Sherlock star Robert Downey Jr. star can do no wrong these days. He's at the peak of his drawing power, and Sherlock will benefit immensely as a result. Don't be surprised if this sequel tops its predecessor's $209 million domestic haul.

Family audiences are bound to show up in droves for the third installment in the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise. Parents may moan and groan, but they won't be able to stop their children from passionately campaigning on behalf of the 20th Century Fox release.

Young Adult is a reunion of Juno's writer/director combo of Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman, but don't expect it to generate the same level of Oscar attention. Still, Young Adult should have no problem roping in a healthy portion of the same audience that turned up for Bad Teacher, another dark comedy featuring a famous actress in offensive mode.

Check out our predictions for these films and others in the table below.
